Located to the right of the «weapon-house», you will note that there is an opening in the wall. Within, there is a room over six feet in height; there is a peeping hole located at the top. Probably, this was a place for the statue of a saint. People may have stopped here and said prayers as they did before the cross on the outside chancel wall.
The «weapon-house» dates to the early 1600s, perhaps even earlier. In older times, armed men and soldiers had to leave their weapons here before entering the church. Thus emerged the name «weapon-house.» Originally, there probably was not an attached building here in front of the entrance to the church. The attachment obstructs the vision of the beautiful marble portal. A bit up the wall, close to the lower end of the window, we can see a marble stone featuring Roman numbers.
